Last February, UNC-TV’s on-air magazine, Our State, recorded much of the construction of Patrick Dougherty’s Disorderly Conduct (more commonly known around campus as the ‘stick sculpture’). The telecast will premier on local PBS stations on Thursday, October 6 at 8 p.m., but the Guilford College Art Gallery has permission to show part of this feature prior to its air date. Thus, Thursday, September 29th at 6 p.m. in the gallery space of Hege Library, Terry Hammond and the curatorial staff will host a “Preview Party” for this broadcast. All members of the Guilford community are invited to collectively view a portion of this special episode of Our State. Refreshments will be provided.
The 12-minute segment includes interviews with Guilford students, faculty, staff, and local volunteers. During the artist’s interview, Dougherty says he considers this piece to be one of his best sculptures. An encore presentation of Weave, a documentary film about Patrick Dougherty by Guilford’s own Natalie Streiter, will also be shown.
