This year’s Burren College of Art Summer School will give art students an opportunity to work closely with students of the environmental and natural sciences in addressing particular concerns relevant to the Burren, on the west coast of Ireland. Entitled Creativity, Collaboration and the Burren, students on the programme will be afforded time in the studio, in the landscape and within the community to work independently and collectively to develop a creative response to some of the key issues affecting this unique region, which itself becomes the living laboratory for the summer school.
The broader issue of artist intervention in the landscape to develop creative solutions through the lens of the artists will also be explored. Led by a faculty of artists and environmentalists, students will research the people, the physical environment and the creative potential of the Burren.
Each student will have their own studio space, available 24/7. Accommodation and daily transportation are also provided. The programme will run from May 26th to June 23rd 2012 and a maximum of 6 undergraduate credits are available. Fees for the 2012 programme are €3,500.
Closing date for applications is March 30th.
